More Nyx!

Taina - Mother to both Nyx and Xena. She is owned by Little Creek German Shepherds, Carol Georgiades, our mentor.

Nyx is now breeding age. She is finishing the process of tests and evaluations to be considered eligible for breeding. Thus far, she has passed all requirements. If all goes well, puppies will arrive around March 2026.We will most likely breed Nyx to Atilla. He is a black showline medium sized male with a calm and confident attitude. In addition to this, Atilla's personality is warm, affectionate, and at times goofy, making for the perfect family pet temperament. He tends to pass this down to many of his offspring.Atilla is DM clear and "Excellent" rated hips evaluated in Germany. His elbows are rated normal.

2026 or 2027 Future Prospect Girl:

Xena

We have started evaluating Xena as a breeding prospect for next year. She is DM Clear/Normal. More extensive genetic testing and OFA will be done in the summer of 2026.This baby girl has a strong confirmation and very happy go lucky personality with a biddable attitude during training. Xena loves to work, she's reasonably quick to learn and, like her half sister Nyx, is a dream to walk on lead.Right now, it is her temperament we are watching. As she was not raised with us for the first five and a half months of her life, there are some personality traits we are evaluating to see if they are innate or a result of her time before us.Xena has tons of personality and love. There isn't a day that goes by that her antics don't make us laugh. She and Nyx are half-sisters through their mother, Taina.

Ethical Breeding Standards

"Breed your dog only if doing so will improve the breed."

  • Both parents must exhibit multiple qualities that will improve the breed

  • GSD's are to be of good to excellent intelligence and exhibit a drive to please

  • All our bloodlines are founded in Europe, currently Show-line. In the future we will have Working-line GSD's. If you are looking for a Working-Line GSD, contact us and we will put you in touch with another ethical breeder.

  • Our puppies will be born in our home.

  • We do not breed "American" or "King" Shepherds.

  • All our breeding prospects will be examined by a veterinarian and must be found to be fit to breed

  • Hips & Elbows must be "Fair" or higher in rating. If the OFA rating is "Fair", we will only breed up to Good or Excellent / Exceptional OFA rated male/female. None of our dogs will be bred if are rated "Poor" with OFA.

  • Test Clear / Normal for DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) as well as other genetic defects

  • Age 2 years old or older

  • All females will be retired by age 6 unless a veterinarian recommends they should be retired sooner.

All potential breeding dogs who fall short of these standards will be spayed or neutered.

Puppy Sale Policies

  • Prospective future owners should email or text us to share what they are looking for in a puppy and what they plan on doing with them. Tell us about your family so we can help you find the best possible match, as it is our goal to place a puppy for life.

  • Once Nyx is bred and confirmed to be pregnant, around 4 to 5 weeks after breeding, we will accept deposits of $500.00 to hold a puppy for their future family.

  • If a potential owner wishes to place a deposit and there is not a puppy available they may transfer the deposit to the next available litter, or ask for a refund, minus $25.00 if a credit card was used. Alternatively, we work with our mentor breeder, who may be able to fulfill their needs if we cannot.

  • All puppies will be micro-chipped, de-wormed, a vet exam, and have their age appropriate vaccines before joining their families.

  • The price of our puppies vary depending on the dam and sire. Though it typically start at or around $2,800.00, with Limited (Non-breeding) AKC Registration. Keep in mind this price could fluctuate up, depending on the stud. Full Registration starts at $5,600.00 with several health & training related caveats within the contract.

  • Cash or major credit cards are accepted. There will be an extra $25.00 charge for credit cards. We do not offer payment plans or accept checks.

  • A one year standard health warranty against any genetic defects will be included within the puppy contract.

  • All spay & neuters should not to be done earlier than 24 months of age for the health & maturity of the puppy, no matter what a veterinarian encourages. Studies have shown that very specific age milestones are needed for the best chances of the puppy achieving strong ligaments and bones. AKC Information on Spay & Neuter Studies, 2024. Spaying or neutering before 24 months of age will fully nullify the health warranty.

  • Proper nutrition and exercise is part of an owners responsibility in helping prevent non-genetically caused hip and or elbow dysplasia. As a breeder, we our part to ensure the puppy's parents are free of any hip or elbow dysplasia. See this article: What causes Hip Dysplasia in dogs? and More Information about Hip/Elbow Dysplasia

  • The Puppy Package will have literature and guide, the Puppy Contract, information about spay / neuter, vet health & vaccines records, as well as de-worming records.

  • We offer 4 to 6 basic training classes as part of our Puppy Package. Each class is 30 to 45 minutes in length. In person or "Zoom".

  • For the lifetime of the puppy, you may contact us with any questions, guidance, or concerns.

  • All owners must agree to offering to return the puppy to us if they no longer wish to continue ownership.

All our dogs are socialized with people from a very young age. We do our best to expose them to as much of the world as possible to give them the best start in life.

Fun Things

  • Average time it takes a puppy to learn the basics of potty training: 3 to 14 days.

  • Average time it takes for a puppy to figure out how to manipulate their human, 5 minutes.

  • That's not fur on your shirt! It's German Shepherd Dog Glitter!

  • Head tilts are a German Shepherds specialty!

  • Squirrels are just rats in a better suit, your GSD has to be taught they really aren't assassins waiting to pounce on you from the trees.

  • If you love goofy, zoomies from a meat missle... that's what you will get from your GSD.

  • German Shepherds are the best Shower Guards!

Things to Know

  • Owning a dog isn't cheap. The cost to own a dog can range between $2000 and $4000 a year depending on the quality of food and flea/tick as well as de-wormer medication; and whether or not the dog is brought to a groomer a few times a year, without puppy insurance which can run $25 to $60 a month.

  • No life is disposable. If you do not have two years of your life to commit training a puppy who intends on being your loyal guardian their whole life, do not get a GSD. Their average lifespan is 12 years.

  • Puppies know very little of the outside world and need to be gently introduced to it. Do not expect your puppy to "just know" things.

  • GSD's "blow out" (shed) hard several times a year, so it is best to brush them daily to keep the fur-nadoes down to a minimum. Their shed scale is around 4/5. They are double coated so having them clipped down to the bare skin will harm their fur and put them at risk for sun burn. Their double coat insulates them from the cold and heat.

  • First heats are between 4 and 12 months. Afterwards every 4 to 6 months typically. You may or may not need "diapers".

  • Indoor Crates/Kennels should be used as a tool for housetraining and peace of mind, never for punishment.

  • All dogs have fear phases. Three or more.

  • Special "treats" (any food they love or their regular food) or their favorite toy, are your best friend for all types of training.

"Always remember. If you aren't training your German Shepherd, they are training you."

Adult Dogs Looking For A Home

Currently Carly is looking for a special person who is willing to put in a bit of training to help her become the German Shepherd Dog she was meant to be! She would do fantastic with someone who is home a lot; semi-retired; or retired.Information on Miss Carly:
Breed: Purebreed GSD
AKC: Yes
Birth Date: Jan 2023
Hips/Elbows Rating: Fair/Normal
Drive/Energy Level: High.
Personality: Very sweet with a zest for life. She needs to be taught to turn off that switch and focus. She has a ton of love to give to her future person.Confirmation: Traditional Showline confirmation.
Will be rehomed as a spayed female. The current owner will spay Carly once Carly is purchased and the Rehoming Contract is signed.
Re-homing Fee - There will be one, but as I do not have possession of Carly, prospective owners will have to discuss this information directly with the current owner. Lucky Dog German Shepherds does not get a commission for re-homing Carly nor any kind of payment for assisting in the placement of Carly.Payment plan available. Half down when the Re-home Commitment Contract is signed and delivered, with the remainder upon placement of Carly. It is recommended that she be placed with someone who has experience with GSD's.Okay with: Other dogs, probably. She seems fine in a kennel environment. Not okay with: Small animals, children under the age of 12. This hasn't been tested but it's better to say no.Vet Clinic Behavior: Great!History:
Carly was supposed to be part of a breeding program with a breeder outside Virginia. When she was "liquidated" to another breeder, they decided not to include her in their breeding program but rather find her a good home.

Rehabilitation training into family life of some kind or farm life.
Evaluation: Probably a good agility prospect or herding. Baby girl needs a job!Basic Training:
She knows some basic commands
House-trained: No
Kennel Trained: Yes
Note: She is not one of our dogs, so we would have to get an interested party in contact with the owner.

F.A.Q.'s

"Why do puppies cost what they do?"

There's always that question of "Why do purebred puppies cost so much?" To be clear, it takes years and to find out if a male or female is fit for breeding.Training, food, vet costs, vaccines, preventatives such as flea/tick as well as de-wormer, grooming, and puppy insurance:$5,000 to 10,000+ (Over 2 years)Cost of a puppy with breeding registration: $5000 to $6000, depending on the titles of the parents. This doesn't include shipping costs if they are from out of state or country.Special Testing on the parents: (Genetic tests, Hips/Elbows, Blood tests)
$1000.00 to 1500.00
Pregnancy Costs: (Pregnancy Test, Xrays/Ultrasound, and worst case, C-Section)
$500.00 to $4000.00
Puppy Check up: $30.00 per puppy. Full litter cost: $270.00 + cost of microchipping.

"What is DM?"

Degenerative myelopathy (DM) is a progressive spinal cord disease in dogs that leads to muscle weakness and loss of coordination, primarily affecting the hind limbs. It is similar to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in humans and is often seen in older dogs, particularly certain breeds like German Shepherds and Pembroke Welsh Corgis.Responsible breeders have their dogs tested so they can be sure to avoid breeding "carrier to carrier"; thus increasing the chance of this disease being passed down to their puppies. There are some breeders that believe this disease is a non-issue. When in doubt, ask your veterinarian what your GSD's puppys parents should be tested for.

"What do you mean by remaining small?"

Our Plan for 2026
We wish to have three females, one in house male that have qualified for our breeding program. Right now, we potentially have two. It is our plan to relocate in the future to a place with more land, after which we will look to increase our kennel to four breeding dogs.
After reaching that goal, we will open a small German Shepherd Retirement and Rehabilitation Center. We may taken in a limited number of rescues as well. Most likely we will limit our numbers for rescues to 2 to 4. We want to be able to provide the best care for all our dogs, temporary residents or permanent, as we feed premium food, our numbers must stay small. We will need more land to be able to quarantine any incoming retirees and or rescues until they have had all their tests and vaccines done. They will also need good size runs and larger areas to exercise in as some won't be living inside our home. We currently have one person who is considering becoming our foster volunteer and trainer.

“What not just adopt a dog or go to the animals shelter?”

I've had people ask me this question numerous times.People should always do what their heart and mind tell them to do. For me, having spent many years helping or participating with rescues of large and small animals, I am now content to be a small-scale breeder of the German Shepherd Dog.50% - 75% of what you get from your dog, depending on who you talk to or what article you read, is from genetics. That’s a lot. For myself, I am comforted by the fact that I am provided with information of four to seven generations my dog’s lines are clear of hip, elbow, DM and other genetic issues that would shorten their life or make their life uncomfortable and possibly unsuitable for the average family. We research each of our dog's pedigree and can go 4 to 7 generations back to ensure there are no major genetic defects that would inhibit puppies from having a healthy life. This is not something one can do with a pup from a shelter. We support our local shelters and rescues through whatever means we can, however for us, we are now choosing this road. All our breeding dogs will contribute to improving the breed. Any of them found lacking in temperament, intelligence, conformation, and or health will be spayed or nurtured without exception. We currently have one spayed female, as we felt she would not overall improve the breed to our expectations. She's a wonderful family pet and we love her.I love the breed and believe in them. We will continue help rehome and retrain select GSD’s.
